The Digital Water Pavilion is a singular and innovative project of Milla Digital, implemented by Expoagua Zaragoza 2008 on behalf of the City of Zaragoza. Located in the connection node of the Expo site with the Milla Digital area, the DWP joins the theme of water with the digital technologies, creating a sense of continuity towards the future for the big projects of transformation nowadays in course in Zaragoza. This Pavilion of minimalist expression and small dimensions is, at the same time: a sophisticated machine of high mechanical precision; a building appearing and desappearing thanks to a 12 hydraulic pistons system; and a place where spaces are flexible, changing and responsive due to the action of 120 meters of water walls digitally controlled by almost 3.000 electromagnetique valves. It has been designed by Carlo Ratti Associatti, developping the interactive water wall concept created by the Smart Cities Group (MIT Media Laboratory) with the direction of Prof. William J. Mitchell.

Designed by brainacs from MIT in collaboration with dozens of other partners, the Digital Water Pavilion will make a huge splash at the Expo Zaragoza in Spain next year, the theme of the Expo being Water and Sustainable Development. Continuously recycled water cascading from the roof of the pavilion will form the four exterior walls and several interior partitions, while displaying various digital messages and pre-programmed graphics formed by actual breaks in the water. The pavilion itself will house a café, public area, and exhibition space for the water-focused Expo.

Generator.x 2.0: Beyond the screen is now only a week away, and we’re busy planning the last details. The call for participants was a definitive success, allowing us the privilege of a strong group of candidates to choose from. Participants were selected for the quality of their work as well as for their diverse approaches to digital fabrication. The result is an interesting mix of artists, architects and designers, united by their use of code-based processes, but showing very different strategies and intentions in their work.

For now the Club Transmediale site has the most complete list of Generator.x 2.0 events. In addition to the workshop and exhibition, there will also be two evenings of public presentations. A precise schedule with more details will be published here in the coming days.
